Ipswich man caught trying to claim against Groupama
A man who tried to cheat Groupama by making a false claim for a vintage Bentley has been fined £ 10,000 after a survey by the insurance fraud enforcement Department (IFED).
Peter Michael Webb, 56, of Richmond Road, Ipswich, insured a Bentley Mark V1 for £ 42,000 after saying he had spent £ 38,000 in cash recovering scrap.

Webb was arrested at work and accused of fraud by false representation. After initially plead not guilty, gave Webb the load later.
On March 8, Webb was fined £ 10,000 in Ipswich Crown Court. He faces six months in jail if he defaulted on the extra repayments. Webb was also ordered to pay £ 1,305 £ 1,000 compensation, court costs and a £ 15 victim's surcharge Groupama.
IFED detective constable Declan Malone said: "Webb thought he had a clever plan to claim a substantial five figure sum by his insurer with his story that his restored Bentley had stolen. However, the insurers saw through his fraud and the case was referred to us and we could quickly determine that he had committed a crime. IFED will continue to insurance fraudsters to justice. "
Groupama insurance counter-fraud manager Andrew Pagett said: "this is an excellent result for us and IFED. Groupama insurance dedicated fraud team was suspicious of this claim at an early stage because of differences in the customer story, made worse by the lack of supporting documentation confirmation of the existence of his vehicle. "
