Monexnews-Prototype solar cell produced by Panasonic Corp. has reached the world's highest conversion efficiency at 24.7%, according to a test conducted by the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Services and Technology, the Nikkei reported in its issue of February 11.
It beat the previous record in Figure 24.2% held by u.s. companies, SunPower Corp.
Solar cell products from Panasonic has brought a pretty good profit, but the company sees greater business challenges in the future. To raise the level of profits, the company is aiming for more efficient solar cell that is focused to household products, which offer a more stable prices of other equipment.
In addition, Panasonic is currently trying to reduce production costs by 20% to make it at a plant in Malaysia which uses most of the components are made outside of Japan.
